Acts of Mercy

A wedding veil tattered and torn
The altar and the opera lost;
Eternity in flames.

A night of cheap wine and bad poetry
The old master painter on his knees
Soul-songs to punish the gods.

Half-blind striptease of the Muse,
Holy Women swear a silver-lipped vow
The Lonely Maid sells her dreams.

A wine-kissed, coffee-freckled smile
Howls a sadness too shapeless to define
A shattered idol on the temple steps.

Pockets lined with heavy stones,
The laughing river swallows the empty child;
A golden muse drowned.
